Fatbeats closing up shop is a stab in the heart to Hip-Hop!

On August 18th, they announced that Fatbeats would be closing their two remaining stores in the U.S. Hip-Hop supporters, artists and fans were devastated by the news that Fatbeats LA and Fatbeats NY would no longer be around and open for business, although their online store and distribution will continue to run. Fatbeats has been a staple for many not just in those cities but those from other countries who come visit the store to connect with the hip-hop world and discover good music and artists that is beyond the mainstream world. As many will tell you fatbeats is a part of history and our music culture, it is definitely not your typical record shop, from the selection of music, to the in-store performances and appearances to the copious amounts of hip-hop history taped on the walls and ceiling of autographed pictures and posters. It is definitely an amazing place and I am more than sad to see it go.

As a farewell Tribute to the store they are having in-store performances and appearances all week everyone from DJ Premier and Pete Rock to the Brown Bag AllStars, Sadat X, AG, Breez Evahflowin, Rob Swift, J-Live, Cold Heat, DJ Scratch, Masta Ace and a slew of Duckdown artists as well as many more. It's never too late to support Hip-Hop. Check out the Schedule below and come visit the store before the week is up.

Fatbeats New York is located at 406 6th ave between 8th and 9th st on the 2nd floor.

Hip-Hop In-Store Signings and Performances Only At Fatbeats

Remember when artists use to drop an album or a book and they would have an in-store signing at the Virgin store. You would have to go early to make your purchase and get a wristband just to wait around on a line that not always guaranteed you would get your CD, vinyl, book or any other object or body part signed. Security would sometimes push you away so quickly that you might have walked away disappointed with your short encounter with your favorite artists. Fatbeats has always been the music spot where you can meet great artists without the hassle and most times see exclusive in-store performances. Over the summer alone they have had in-store events for Marco Polo and Torae, Fresh Daily, and Raekwon to name a few. It is really a great spot with a nice chill vibe.

This Friday September 25th, M.O.P. will be stopping by for an In-Store Signing of their new album The Foundation. This is the perfect opportunity for fans who always wanted to meet them and get stuff signed that could not do so at a show. The Brownsvillians will be in the store at 6 p.m. so come kick it with M.O.P. at Fatbeats, which is located at 406 8th st and 6th ave on the 2nd floor.

On Tuesday, September 27th, the long awaited album release of Skyzoo's The Salvation finally hits shelves. It's the first release on 9th Wonder's new record label Jamla. They will both be making an appearance at Fatbeats for a signing as well as to perform some tracks off of the new album. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is free, which is all the more reason to drop by.

Take advantage of these opportunities to meet these artists, get stuff signed, take pictures with them and see live performances because you never know when you will have another chance to.
